Have you ever seen somebody use upside down text on the web? Ever wonder how to do it? Let’s take a quick look at how the characters are actually put together, and show you an easy generator that will do it for you.

Upside down text is actually just a trick that uses special Unicode symbols that appear to be upside down letters, though they really aren’t turned upside down. By replacing the regular letters with the correct upside-down letters, it appears as though you’re writing upside down.

Here’s what it looks like when you write “how-to geek” upside down using Unicode characters:

In case your browser or email client can’t process Unicode properly, this is what it should look like:

If you want to use upside-down text or you just want to find some interesting Unicode symbols somewhere, you’ll need to start off by finding the right characters to use. Your best bet is to check out this massive list of Unicode characters over on Wikipedia, and just search for a character name that you’re looking for.

To make upside down text, you’ll look for the letters that are either meant to represent upside down characters, or at least look like them. So for instance, you can write the T character upside down by substituting one character for another:

t = ʇ

You’ll see this character in the list over on Wikipedia, and you’ll notice that there’s a code next to it, in this case 0287 is the Unicode character code for the upside-down T.

You can use these upside-down characters in Word or most applications that have a richedit control by entering in that code and then hitting the Alt+X key combination. Note: you should be able to use the Alt+C key combination as well, but Alt+X seems to be more compatible.

Obviously this could end up being really tedious, but it’s interesting to learn how to do it, right?

Most POP accounts such as hotmail or Gmail are able to be checked with any client. Here we will take a look at how to get your Gmail into Windows Live Mail.

** Note: This is for Windows Live Mail and not Windows Mail which replaced Outlook Express and is included in Vista. Windows Live Mail is a separate download via Windows Live Services.

For checking a Gmail account with different clients you do need to make sure your Gmail has POP enabled. Go into your Gmail \ Settings \ Forwarding and POP/IMAP and enable POP to for all mail which will transfer the entire inbox or just the mail you get from this point forward. Also you can choose weather or not to keep a copy on Google’s servers.

The first thing you will want to do is log in to your Live account if you haven’t already and click on “Add an e-mail account”.

Next enter in the account information for the email address, password and Display Name you want include and click on Next.

You then get a message advising you to follow instructions on setting up POP in Gmail. Just ignore that because we already set it up at the beginning of this article. You may want to check this account as your default however.

After everything is set up you will start getting messages from your Gmail account. Pretty slick!

Not a day passes by without doing an online search. You may know of basic search operators like AND, OR, etc. but an increasing number of web applications support even more keywords that’ll help you fine tune your search to the core. Here are some you may have never heard of.

1. Google: Use AROUND(n) for proximity search

Chances are you’ve never heard of Google’s AROUND(n) search operator. Using the AROUND(n) operator, you can specify the distance between two search terms.

For example, searching for obama AROUND(5) osama will return only those web pages that contain both these terms at a distance of five words. Could come in handy when you’re searching for name aliases, among other things. If you’re interested, check out this list containing relatively lesser known Google search operators.

2. Gmail: Search super-starred emails

Starring emails is one indispensable feature in Gmail and you’ve probably enabled Superstars labs addon. This feature gives you additional star icons to mark your messages so that you can differentiate important emails.

What many people don’t know is that you can search and find messages that have been marked by a specific star. For example, has:blue-info will restrict search results to those emails that are marked with a blue info star and not others.

3. Gmail: Add Instant Search with CloudMagic

Gmail search simply leaves a lot to be desired. At least, in terms of speed. It’s pretty slow, especially if you have archived plenty of messages in your Gmail account. Enter CloudMagic – an addon for Firefox and Chrome that adds an instant search bar to Gmail.

Give your Gmail account credentials (don’t worry, they’re stored locally) and then click Ctrl + / to put the focus on the CloudMagic search bar. Start typing. Matching emails show up instantly as you type. If you live and die by Gmail, you gotta have CloudMagic installed. No excuse!

4. Bing: Find a new wallpaper in seconds

Google lets you use the imagesize operator to specify a resolution for image search results. You might have used this operator to search for wallpapers that satisfy your screen resolution. For example, searching for [nature imagesize:1366x768] will return pictures that are of that size.

Bing fares better in this arena. Just visit bing.com/images, type in your search term and choose Size > Wallpapers from the left panel. Bing will now show pictures that match your screen resolution. You needn’t explicitly specify it. One caveat: it doesn’t work if you have dual monitors. Hat tip: Labnol.

5. Evernote: Search notes based on the source they came from

If you’re an Evernote junkie, chances are you use it to dump stuff from a multitude of applications. What if you want to restrict searches to notes from a particular source? It’s easy, thanks to the built-in source operator.

20 Windows Keyboard Shortcuts You Might Not Know

Mastering the keyboard will not only increase your navigation speed but it can also help with wrist fatigue. Here are some lesser known Windows Shortcuts to help you become a Keyboard NINJA.

GLOBAL Windows Shortcuts

Win+1, 2, 3, 4, etc. will launch each program in your taskbar. It is helpful then to keep your most used program at the beginning of your taskbar so you can open them one right after another. This also in Windows Vista for the quick launch icons.

Win+Alt+1, 2, 3, etc. will open the jump list for each program in the taskbar. You can then use your arrows to select which jump list option you want to open.

Win+T will cycle through taskbar programs. This is similar to just hovering over the item with your mouse but you can launch the program with Space or Enter.

Win+Home minimize all program except current the window. This is similar to the Aero shake and can be disabled with the same registry key.

Win+B selects the system tray which isn't always useful but can come in very handy if your mouse stops working.

Win+Up/Down maximizes and restores down the current window so long as that window has the option to be maximized. It is exactly th same as clicking on the middle button on your windows.

Alt+Esc is like Alt+Tab but switches windows in the order they are opened and does not have the fancy window preview overlay.

Win+Pause/Break will open your system properties window. This can be helpful if you need yo see the name of the computer or simple system statistics.

Ctrl+Esc can be used to open the start menu but will not work as a Windows key replacement for other shortcuts.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc will open the task manager without needing to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del first.

Alt+Space will open the window system menu which can be used to maximize (x), minimize (n), close (c) , or move (m) the window which can be especially helpful if you windows is somehow off-screen. This shortcut can also be helpful with windows that doesn't close with the Alt+F4 shortcut such as the command window.

Windows Explorer Shortcuts

Here are handy shortcuts built into Windows Explorer which have similar features in other programs too.

Alt+Up will navigate up one folder level since the up arrow on the menu bar was removed in Windows Vista. Alternatively, you can also make Backspace go up one folder level with a handy AutoHotKey script.

Shift+F10 opens the contextual or “right click” menu for a file/folder. This can be very handy for speed especially if you know which option you want to select. Look for an underlined letter in each option to know which letter you can press for faster access.

Shift+Del deletes a file without sending it to recycle bin because who wants to empty their recycle bin anyway?

Ctrl+Shift+N creates a new folder in your current directory.

Alt+Enter opens the file properties so you can view file size, sharing setting , and creation date.

F2 renames a file or folder.

F3 will open explorer and select the search bar. If you already have an explorer window open it will highlight the search bar. In some programs it will also open the search dialog to search within the program.

F6 cycles objects in the current window. In explorer this will cycle between the location bar, options bar, left pane, and right pane. It also works with varying success in other programs.

F10 toggles the file menu in explorer.

Solutuion :: There is a loop hole in Nokia mobile phone using which you can send fake SMS messages. i.e you can send a SMS to your friend by changing the from address to some random e-mail address.
Nokia has a feature called SMS e-mail.
This feature is used to send e-mail by SMS. You network operator will have a SMS e-mail server.
You are supposed to send a SMS to the SMS mail server with the To address, subject and e-mail body as a part of the SMS text body by following the conventions provided by your Network operator.
You SMS server will read the To address, Subject and the Body of e-mail from the SMS message and forwards the mail to the corresponding e-mail address.
If I'm confusing you, better take a look at this example

Compose a SMS with the following text
"to:xyz@gmail.com sub:hello body: hi test msg" excluding the double quotes
send the SMS to 9915 which is the SMS server for Airtel network, India.
Airtel will forward the SMS to the corresponding mail address xyz@gmail.com
Some Nokia phones have a separate feature for this e-mail. So we can use this feature to send Fake messages.

Sending steps:

Step 1: Compose a SMS msg with the text you want to send
Step 2: Go to sending Options-> Send to E-mail
Step 3: in the text box that appears key in an e-mail address which has to be a fake from address in your
message.
Step 4: Subject text box appears. Leave it blank or type in something you want
Step 5: E-mail Server text box

This is the place where spoofing happens.

Instead of typing your e-mail server number 9915

Type in the mobile number of your friend/enemy you want to spoof

Then send the message.

Kudoos !!!! You are done !!!! You've sent a fake SMS message

Your friend/enemy will receive the message.

But the Sender number will be replaced with the e-mail address you gave.

Your number will not be displayed in the sender part.

I tried this trick in Nokia 6060 and Nokia 6610.

In other phones also the steps must be the same but the menu layout might change.
